MEet our Coaches

Kyra deehr-Lewis

Deehr-Lewis comes to Koa Field Hockey with a wide array of coaching experience. Most recently, they were the assistant field hockey coach at Washington & Jefferson College, where they instructed eleven National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad members, and four Scholars of Distinction.


Since 2017, Deehr-Lewis has been a field hockey umpire, earning their level one certification in indoor in 2018, and in outdoor in 2021. Since then, they have umpired at a variety of games and tournaments ranging from Shooting Star recruiting showcases to NCAA Division III. Since 2018, Deehr-Lewis has coached at various institutions and organizations such as Texas Pride Field Hockey Club, Patriots Field Hockey Club, the Hill House Boston, Neshaminy High School, Council Rock North High School, Philly Hockey Club, and Wellesley Youth Field Hockey.


At their alma mater, Wellesley College, Deehr-Lewis was a four-year member and one year captain of the Field Hockey Program, and logged a multitude of accolades, including a three-time NEWMAC Field Hockey Academic All-Conference Honoree, three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad, Academic All-District Team as a senior, and NEWMAC Defensive

Athlete of the Week. They also hold the program record for single season saves, and career saves. Deehr-Lewis graduated with honors in Environmental Studies and Anthropology from Wellesley College in May of 2024.



Ava Radel

Ava is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania and played Division I field hockey at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she served as team captain and was recognized as a Dean’s Scholar. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Finance and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Sports Industry Management at Georgetown University.


Ava brings experience coaching youth and club-level field hockey, and she also serves as a mentor through Athlete to Athlete, helping young players build confidence both on and off the field. She’s passionate about creating a positive, supportive environment where athletes can develop strong fundamentals, grow as teammates, and build a genuine love for the game. Ava is excited to bring her energy, leadership, and love for field hockey to the U12 team this season.


Casey HErtel

Casey is from Frederick, Maryland and played Division 3 field hockey at Shenandoah University. She earned her bachelors degrees in Business and Kinesiology and received her masters in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University.


Casey brings 20 years of coaching experience to the team at the rec and club level for both field hockey and softball. Casey enjoys sharing her passion for the game as well as building skills athletes will use both on and off the field.
